Our royalty-free samples give you full ownership—no publishing, credit, or royalty obligations, and no clearance required. Our royalty-based samples can be released freely if you’re independent, but if your track is distributed by a major label or exceeds 1 million streams, you’ll need to clear the sample.
How to clear a sample
You can clear a sample in two ways:
- Clear My Track — automatic clearance using our standard license terms
Propose a Deal — negotiate custom terms directly with the creator
Standard License Terms
The chart below shows what the sample creator earns, which depends on the license type (A, B, or C) and how many seconds the sample plays in your track.
How publishing and master royalties are calculated
The split applies to both publishing and master royalties, but they’re each calculated differently:
Publishing: % of the whole song
Master: % of the artist's share of the song
Example
If your track uses a Royalty B sample that plays for more than 90 seconds, the sample’s rate is 15%. The sample creator earns 15% of the song’s publishing royalties, and for the master, they earn 15% of the total artist share—so if the artist (or artists collectively) own 50% of the master, that equals 7.5% total.
